Kamp PHUN (Peace, Hope, Unity, Now) is a ministry in the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia.  This is a fun kamp which sees to provide a typical kamp experience in a safe, loving, aware and accepting setting for the children of current or former incarcerated persons.  These at-risk children have a 1 in 10 chance of being incarcerated before reaching age of 18 and they have one of the highest suicide rates.

The kamp is open at no cost to children ages 9-11 for a week.  The activities for Kamp PHUN are in many ways no different from other summer kamps.  However, the staff conduct the kamp with special awareness of the emotional needs of these at-risk children in an attempt to help them “break the cycle”.

Kamp PHUN is conducted with a Vacation Bible School approach which includes a daily bible class, crafts and a clown ministry workshop for teamwork.  We have a week of swimming, crafts, hiking, watermelon parties, kamp fire singing, movie night and “lots” of LOVE and hugs.

            Each child will receive:

  • Free to the family – one week of Summer kamp at Honey Creek
  • Each child receives a school backpack filled with personal items needed for kamp and a pool towel to take home.
  • Each child receives a set of 4 brightly colored and 1 special T-Shirts, so every child will feel equal.
  • If a child arrives at kamp without any necessary item (example-swimsuit) it is purchased.
  • Transportation to and from kamp.
  • And the Love of the Staff and Friendships of other kamper.

An Educational Program for Preventing Child Sexual Abuse

Safeguarding God’s Children, produced by the Church Pension Group, is a program aimed at preventing child sexual abuse.  Parents, congregations, church leaders and clergy can all benefit from this program geared to preventing and responding to child sexual abuse in everyday life and in ministry.

This three-hour workshop is a diocesan requirement for all who work with children and youth (EDOG). It is recommended that anyone who has a key to the church take the training. Learn how to safeguard our children against sexual abuse.

Who Requires Training:

Ø  Three hours of child sexual abuse prevention education and training is required for all church personnel who regularly work with or around children or youth before they start their work with children or youth.  If that is not possible, he or she must be trained in the parish or congregation’s written policy before beginning work and receive the rest of the training within three months of starting.

Ø  One hour of child sexual abuse awareness education and training is required for all church personnel who occasionally work with or around children or youth before they start their work with children or youth.
